INNOVATIVE FREEZING METHODS

From standard bulk production to pre-weighed convenience products

Suitable for everything from regular bulk and mince packages to interleaved products, the Non-Pressure Plate freezer delivers quality frozen products with ease and efficiency. Our freezer is innovative, has a small footprint and offers a sustainable option for the rapid freezing of large volumes of food.

Our patented, Non-Pressure Plate Freezer is designed to plate freeze any type of product in a variety of packaging.

Product retains its shape as no pressure is used in the freezing process. Short loading and freezing times give you a high capacity unit that can freeze up to 100 tons per 24 hours. The freezer is ideal for bulk production without sacrificing premium quality. It is energy efficient, using up to 40% less energy than conventional blast freezers.

READY MEALS

Gentle handling of delicate ready meal packaging

The non-pressure plate technology is ideal for the rapid, in-line freezing of large volumes of convenience and ready meals in a variety of containers. Ready meals can be frozen directly from cooking; no precooling is necessary. Gentle infeed and no pressure on the product during freezing prevents damage to the delicate packaging of ready meals, maximizing yield and quality.

TRAYS AND PACKS

Ideal for a range of trays and packs

The Non-Pressure Plate Freezer can accommodate any type of packed products, including solid board, regular carboard, thin cardboard, plastic bags, aluminum or plastic trays with or without a lid and ID tag and special trays for bags of soft and difficult products. Packs can be weighed before or after freezing. It can also easily freeze strapped boxes that are palletized directly from the freezer, supporting sustainable storing and logistic measures.

Fast plate freezing, excellent bulk production quality

The freezer is available in various sizes with a capacity ranging from 20 to 100 tons per 24 hours at -18 °C for a single freezer. Multiple freezers can be connected to create the freezing capacity you need. A fully automatic infeed system eliminates the  need of manpower to load the unit. The fast freezing and short loading times increase overall system capacity and ensure high product quality.

Easy to connect to weighing, packing and palletizing systems

A range of auxiliary weighing and packing equipment can be connected directly to the freezer; from Skaginn 3X’s weighing and packing systems to different third party systems.
Their reputation for standing behind their solutions and commitments made them the ideal partner for developing this process solution. The automatic box freezer is an interesting solution for the pelagic fish industry. The box freezer has higher heat transfer compared to a traditional air blast freezer. The main difference between the new automatic box freezer and traditional plate freezers is that the pressure on the product is minimised, which eliminates the risk of formation of gaping and other pressure-related damages.”

We are operating one of the most sophisticated pelagic processing plants in the industry. It is outfitted with several automated systems from Skaginn 3X, including Non-Pressure Plate Freezers. The freezers are very efficient and handle the product really well.  We opted for these plate freezers to make sure that the quality of the product was kept intact and to maintain a fully automated process. Our yield is up, the quality is maintained and processing time is far less than before. It now takes only a day to freeze up to 800 tonnes of herring, something that could take up to a week before.“
Hlynur Ársælsson, operations manager, Eskja Pelagic Processing, Iceland.

sustainability

Plate freezing that is more energy efficient than blast freezing

The Non-Pressure Plate Freezer uses 30-40% less energy than conventional blast freezers when freezing boxed products. It can run for up to 10 days without defrosting and cleaning. This helps processors gain higher yields and maintain the best possible quality with maximum efficiency.

Hygienic and easy to clean freezing cabins

The freezer and its auxiliary systems are designed with ease of use, ergonomics and hygiene in mind. A fully closed freezing cabin, short freezing time and no product pressure result in an efficient, cost effective solution that operates with minimum manpower.

CONTACT SALES
What is the difference between non-pressure freezing and regular plate freezing?
Our freezing technology freezes product through the direct contact of aluminum plates from below and above the product without putting pressure on the plates.
Non-pressure plate freezing is better for your product. The technology does not squeeze, press or leave unwanted processing marks on your product.
Trays and packs are not frozen under pressure so there is no danger of product packages bursting or tearing open due to too much pressure or product expanding beyond the capacity of the packaging.
How can you plate freeze products without using pressure?
By defining and analyzing your product we determine the correct setup of the Non-Pressure Plate Freezers to correspond exactly to your needs.
The system has mechanical boundaries which protect the pressure on your product enabling full contact freezing without pressure.
Why is Non-pressure plate freezing more profitable than traditional vertical plate freezing?
Non-Pressure freezing enables the user to freeze products that have already been packed into bulk or consumer packaging.
Non-Pressure freezing allows the user to freeze pre-weighed units instead of units which are produced by volume.
Freezing pre-weighed product makes it easier to for the user to have complete overview and control of their product based on weight.
Enables faster thawing of the product.
Better product quality leads to less give-away.
What is the difference between non-pressure freezing and blast freezing?
Non-pressure freezing is a different method than blast freezing. Conventional blast freezers use air to transfer heat from the product.
Non-pressure freezers use direct contact of aluminum plates below and above the product to transfer heat from the product.
What is the heat transfer difference of air compared to aluminum?
Using aluminum as a conductor to extract heat from a product will most often result in high transfer rates of energy. When using air to extract heat from a product there will be other factors determining the outcome, one of them is the amount of air used, controlled by speed. The thermal heat transfer rate of aluminum is thousands of times higher than that of air.
Where does Non-pressure technique show an advantage?
If you have a product packed in a consistent form of packaging and you want automation in your production this technique is something that will be very beneficial to your production.
If you are looking into consistency in your manufacturing methods you should consider the Non-pressure technique because one of the basic components of the technique is FIFO.
What is FIFO?
FIFO means first in, first out. The first product into the system is the first product to come out. This is often used in food production where time is of the essence, such as in freezing.
Can I freeze products in plastic bags?
Yes, a systematic solution designed by Skaginn 3X allows you to freeze bags of product. The system automatically aligns each bag into a specially designed freezing tray which carries the product through the freezing process. When the product is fully frozen the system empties the fully frozen bag onto a conveying system. The tray goes back into the que to pick up more products to freeze.
